EN 17353

Enhanced Visibility Clothing

EN 17353 is a relatively new European standard for enhanced visibility clothing. It now appears on the labels of many workwear garments.

In the past, end users often felt confused about garments with reflective tape. Many of these garments did not meet the high-visibility standard EN ISO 20471. Older standards, such as EN 1150 and EN 13356, applied only to non-professional clothing. These standards covered leisurewear and cycling garments, not professional workwear.

EN 17353 replaces EN 1150 and EN 13356.

It now supports the certification of professional clothing. The standard also complements EN ISO 20471. While EN ISO 20471 focuses on high-visibility protection, EN 17353 introduces enhanced visibility clothing.

Enhanced visibility clothing helps make wearers more noticeable in moderate-risk environments. It improves visibility in daylight and low-light conditions. The garments also work when vehicle headlights or other light sources shine on them. This added visibility increases safety in workplaces where clear recognition matters.
