EN ISO 11611

Welding Protection Standard

The EN ISO 11611 standard specifies requirements for PPE used in welding and related processes where there is a risk of exposure to flames, radiant heat from the welding arc, molten metal splatter, and short-term accidental contact with live electrical conductors (up to approximately 100V DC under normal welding conditions).

This standard ensures that garments offer protection from these common welding hazards while maintaining durability and comfort in demanding work environments.

There are two protection classes under EN ISO 11611, each providing a different level of safety:

Class 1

Designed for protection against less hazardous welding techniques and conditions, offering resistance to lower levels of splatter and radiant heat.

Class 2

Provides protection against more hazardous welding techniques and environments, withstanding higher levels of molten metal splatter and radiant heat.

To meet these classifications, the fabric is tested with molten metal droplets15 drops for Class 1 and 25 drops for Class 2. In addition, design-specific requirements such as pocket flap overlaps, seam placement, and fastening systems must comply with the standard to ensure full protection.
